2011-11-04NIX.CZ opened a fifth PoP in Prague

Prague (November, 3 2011) – NIX.CZ, an association of significant providers of internet and telecommunication services announced today the opening of a new PoP in Prague, already the fifth one in a row. This point is located in TTC Teleport telehouse in Prague 10. Permanent operation was commenced on 31.10.2011 here, offering the possibility of connection by ports with the capacity of 1 and 10 GB.

At the beginning of October, exactly 15 years passed since the establishment of NIX.CZ Association. The official celebrations of this significant anniversary were slightly postponed so that the association can focus on putting into operation this new PoP and thus to donate to its birthday this symbolical present to its members and customers.

The present peering node NIX.CZ was extended by a new PoP at the end of January 2003 as the forth PoP was established in Prague Congress Centre data center. The purpose of the current extension of the NIX.CZ node by another locality was to ensure higher independence, higher stability and availability of services. The adding of a new point was enabled by circular topology upgrade last year to the current so called NIX.CZ internal network “dual star“ topology.

The new fifth PoP has arisen under the contribution of TTC TELEKOMUNIKACE s.r.o. in the TTC Teleport telehouse building (a data center independent of telecommunication operators), offering another alternative of connection to NIX.CZ both to new upcoming members and customers and also to all current ones.

About NIX.CZ, z.s.p.o Association:
NIX.CZ, a professional association of legal entities associating Czech and foreign internet services providers in order to enable mutual interconnection of their networks. Connection to the Association´s infrastructure has been enabled already from five Prague locations
It was founded in 1996 by fist seven ISP, associating currently 82 members. The Association has been supporting also peering by IPv6 protocol already since 2003.
Currently, more than 100 companies and autonomous systems are connected to the Association´s infrastructure. During the last five years the data traffic in this node has increased multiple times and currently, in the first half of October exceeded the limit of 200 Gbps which is most of the Czech Internet data.

The Association, the largest neutral IXP (Internet Exchange Point) in the Czech Republic, continues to rank among the ten largest IXP worldwide. Failure free operation of the node is provided by thorough planning, sophisticated technical solution and technical support 24/7/365.
